Play By Ear
If you want to play by ear, you must "work out" your ear each day. It's like working out your body to stay in shape.
Working out your body usually requires two things: resistance training (with weights, etc.) and aerobic training.
Working out your ear requires two things: Perfect Pitch ear training and Relative Pitch ear training.
Regardless of how well one naturally hears music, there is always room for more depth of listening and comprehension. When your ear is open and aware, your ability to play by ear comes naturally to you.
As one musician recently wrote us:
"I started both the Perfect Pitch® Ear Training SuperCourse and the Relative Pitch Ear Training SuperCourse. After a few lessons, I listen to songs on CD and play along with them in less than 5 minutes. I picked up Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" in under 5 minutes. I play guitar and keyboards and now want to form my own band. I can't believe that I had quit playing because I couldn't read music . . . now I don't even need sheet music anymore.
